Bentley Oil Field is a heavy oil field located in the North Sea about 160 kilometres (99 mi) to the east of the Shetland Port of Lerwick. It is owned by Xcite Energy.[1] The field is located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) south-west of Statoil-operated Bressay field.[2]
The oil field was discovered in 1977 at the sea depth of 113 metres (371 ft).[1] A flow test was conducted on well 9/3b-6z by Xcite Energy[3] and it is expected that the well will go into full production in 2011.
The recoverable reserves are 160 million barrels (25×10 6 m3) of oil and total oil in place is estimated about 690 million barrels (110×10 6 m3).[1][4] The field is being drilled using horizontal drilling technology, which was unavailable when the field was discovered in 1977. The field is being drilled by Ocean Nomad, a semisubmersible rig leased from Diamond Offshore Drilling.[5] The company has also signed up to use the jack-up Rowan Norway.[6] First Energy Capital have initiated coverage with an OUTPERFORM rating .[7] In the 26th Seaward Licensing Round Xcite was awarded the nearby blocks 9/3c and 9/3d that border the Bentlyfield block 9/3b .[8]
